Dr. Philip Rouchotas, MSc, ND, and his wife, Dr Heidi Fritz, MA, ND, practice at the Bolton Naturopathic Clinic in Bolton Ontario. His areas of focus include mental health concerns, metabolic syndrome, and autoimmune conditions. He also serves as an Associate Professor at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), responsible for delivery of the second year curriculum in Clinical Nutrition.

Dr. Rouchotas has always had an interest in natural healthcare. It all began when he was young, and saw his mother struggling with a variety of digestion issues. She had been to many doctors who simply tried to prescribe medications to “fix” her issues, without actually trying to get to the root cause. His mother didn’t like the answers she was getting from doctors and didn’t believe that prescribed medication was the answer to her problems, so she began researching natural health and changing her diet and exercise routines and saw that it was making a big improvement in her health. Even as a young child, Dr. Rouchotas was intrigued by the idea that a healthier lifestyle – eating better and exercising regularly – could help improve and even cure many health concerns.

This is what led him to an undergraduate degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Guelph. He spent countless hours researching natural based health, and realized that this was the right career path for him. Specifically, however, the one course he took researching the pathogenesis of Type 2 Diabetes and the impact of diet and exercise on it,

was the reason he continued to pursue a career in naturopathy. He realized the most effective treatment for people is to change their lifestyle, as opposed to prescriptions.

Dr. Rouchotas is a strong believer in natural health; he says there is plenty of evidence supporting naturopathy and its efficacy on human health. “There’s a difference between an evidence base not existing, vs being unaware of an evidence-base,” Rouchotas comments.

He began using Pascoe products 9 years ago, and he found that many of his patients were having great success with them. One of his personal favourites is Neurapas balance. He prescribes Neurapas for many of his adolescent and adult patients who struggle with a wide array of mental health concerns.Neurapas balance is the single most important mental health drug ever created,” Rouchotas explains.

Dr Rouchotas and Dr Fritz are the proud parents of two beautiful children, Sophia is 4, and Nathaniel will be turning 3 in late December. Dr. Rouchotas is very passionate about gardening. His clinic is a beautiful century home that is situated on the main strip of downtown Bolton. The clinic has a luscious garden full of herbs (both medicinal herbs and herbs for cooking) and vegetables that they cultivate and harvest every year. Which is perfect because he is also very passionate about cooking. Each year he makes about 150 jars of his own tomato sauce!
